City vendor remanded for harassing schoolgirl

COURT TODAY BLOCKA Fairchild Street vendor was remanded by a Bridgetown Court after he admitted to harassing a girl on Bridge Street between September 1, 2013 and March 12 this year.

Frank Errol Gibson, of Ivy Main Rad, St. Michael, also pleaded guilty to using abusive words within the schoolgirl’s hearing which were likely to cause her harassment, alarm or distress on March 10.

In outlining the facts, acting Station Sergeant Neville Watson said that the complainant has been encountering Gibson on her way to and from school for the past two years.

She “has had no rest, no peace from this accused man”, Watson said, adding that she had made several complaints and Gibson had been spoken to. But on Tuesday after Gibson “uttered those violent words” to the girl, she told her mother and police.

Gibson reportedly told the girl: “All I would do to you is f*** you, b*** you, carry you for other men to b*** and f*** you and then kill you”.

Gibson, a repeat offender, has been before the courts mainly for “dishonesty and wounding.”

When it was his turn to speak, Gibson explained to Magistrate Douglas Frederick that he pleaded guilty because he said certain things to the girl but never threatened to kill her.

He said she walks with other girls on evenings and “is so bad-behaved”.

“She does come and curse me and tell other people I went jail for killing a woman,” he said. Gibson said he spoke to the girl’s mother about her behaviour twice, to no avail.

Saying that he needed to get to the bottom of the matter – which he considered to be a very serious one – the Magistrate reserved sentencing and remanded Gibson until next Friday. He also chided Gibson, 44, for speaking to a minor in that fashion, since he was much older and also had the option of reporting the matter if the girl was in fact harassing him.

Whether she bad or not that does not give him the right to harass her and say those words to her.

Whether the girl is bad not, one thing we do know is that this 44-year-old punk is just that — a punk with the mind of an adolescent. The proper response would have been to report her to her mother AND the police. He is a grown man who should know better! Too many of his ilk running around Barbados. No common sense and no class whatsoever.
