Brandford seals the game with last penalty

Kickstart won 5-4 by virtue of penalties against Maxwell when the two sides played each other at Briar Hall, Christ Church in the Banks Beer Champions Cup on Tuesday.

It was a thrilling encounter between the two teams with the game going into extra time. It was an encounter that created some nail-biting moments for supporters.

Kickstart opened with a goal through Zaquan Ishmael in the fifth minute of play which put early pressure on Maxwell. Both teams played well defensively throughout the game and it took Maxwell very late in the second half to finally equalize through Alex Chandler. This meant the game went into 30 minutes overtime.

Maxwell took the lead during extra time when a cross came in from the left directly in front the goal which lead to a bit  of a scramble by the defenders before Marcelo Serieux got a touch on the the ball and scored.

This put Kickstart on the back foot once again and they needed to pull something out of the bag to stay in the game and that they did when Luke Humphrey kicked the ball into the wind from 25 yards out and the ball which appeared to be going out, dipped and went into the back of the nets to lock the scores at 2-2.

It came down to penalties and it was Jabari Brandford who scored the last penalty shot and sealed the game 5-4 for Kickstart.

In other matches played on the day, Wotton won 3-0 over Elite Sports Club, Benfica edged out Bydes Mill 2-1, Ivy Rovers defeated L&R 5-3 and Fairy Valley got the better of Exactly 1-0.
