House Speaker recuses himself

House Speaker Michael Carrington recused himself from the chair at the start of today’s sitting of Parliament.

He took the action after the newly appointed leader of Opposition business in the House Santia Bradshaw raised strong objection to the Speaker remaining in his seat, in light of a publicised legal dispute between Carrington, who is an attorney, and one of his clients.

The Speaker immediately left the lower chamber and was replaced by Deputy Speaker Mara Thompson.

It was unclear whether this situation would obtain for the full duration of today’s session.

I have voted DLP since Errol Barrow cast a spell on me as a teenager and convinced me that he was, like my father, working for a better life for me. As an adult I became more aware that, like my real father, he was human and therefore not perfect. I still believe, however, that his ultimate goal was a better life for me. I am not a “yardfowl” nor a member of the DLP nor a sworn enemy of the BLP as they have their role to play. Thank you, Ms. Bradshaw for accomplishing what none of my friends thought would happen. If it had not happened I would have given up all hope for Barbados. If this remains the case, then maybe, just maybe, I shall actually vote in the next election. For whom? I really don’t know.

Don’t lawyers have a code of ethics? Only in Barbados can an attorney do such and still hold office. Where does the PM stand on this thievery.

Some may say sin is sin but the biggest sin is gossip and that is what we love to do because gossip can get one hurt in many ways and even kill, life is so funny that ppl that leaving comments are no better than those that they are commenting about,we must need to clean our own backyards first before we can judge others, and all of us have a skeleton in our closet just waiting to come out.
A man is innocent until proven guilty let us wait until the outcome
before we do what we are great at [judge]
