A news report says that the air conditioning unit(s) in the control tower have been malfunctioning for weeks, and that this is the cause of the strike.

What a pity that it takes shutting down the airport to get action on something this simple!

Just been advised by a supervisor that management will be in at 9am to resolve the issue. Really!!!! so much respect shown by management for our tourism industry. Whatever happened to leadership by example – why didn’t they rush down to the airport to sort this problem out??

Stimes we don’t know what people have to go through until we r stuck in the position….imagine surrounded by glass with the heat outside and no AC for weeks in a small space….keeping our families & friends alive. The strike should have lasted the entire day.

I don’t agree with the entire day! But unfortunately that’s what has to be done here for public worker’s basic needs to be met

What a great way to scare tourists away! Want to get there, but can’t…already paid non-refundable deposit on hotel room…can’t get home when you need to. Just WONDERFUL!!!

Anyone involved in this is cutting off a nose to spite a face. Barbadians should remember that tourists have lots of other islands to choose from. A collapse of the sugar industry PLUS the tourist industry would leave Bim pretty much dead in the water. What is going on here?

Everyone single one of these comments sound like their are coming from people who are retarded. G.A.I.A is run by a board and someone should be held responsible for this mess and fired instant! What Our PM has to do with a air-conditioning unit not functioning in the Control Tower, is he a maintenance man now?

Aviation in Barbados has been a shambles for decades, and the government (= the politicians) clearly have no intention of improving it – and now they have no money to improve it either.

One major problem is that every time a Director Of Civil Aviation retires, they do not advertise the position so that a more broadly qualified aviation person can apply, and then they install yet another limited-knowledge Air Traffic Controller (a friend of the politicians?) to rise to his own level of incompetence (The Peter Principle) while trying to deal with the airport, airlines, personnel licensing, other CADs and CAAs, and globally important matters.

Also, Barbados is ICAO/IASA Category 2 partly because the CAD is short-staffed and there is literally no oversight to ensure that the operators are in compliance with laws and regulations.

Hey, Fumble!!! Good work there – the plan to destroy Barbados from the inside is advanced yet another step!!!
