Apologies for pricey cake

Would you pay more than $100 for half of a cake? When one of our readers went shopping at one of the Massy Stores over the weekend, he was shocked to discover a price tag of $109.95 on a half portion of coconut cake. The customer, who claims he had previously encountered a $100 price tag on a chicken, immediately drew the situation to Barbados TODAY’s attention by posting a picture of the item on our Facebook page.

Today, the Senior Marketing Manager of Massy Stores Karen Alleyne apologized for the error.

She also assured that if the customer had proceeded with his purchase of the cake, he would not have been charged the advertised price, but for the correct price which was in the system.

“We encourage customers to make the management aware of these issues because it is a human error. And the person would be sold the item at the price that it should have been stated at, which in this case would be $11.99 for the half cake,” said Alleyne.

“If the price on the sticker was less than the price in the system then we would allow the customer to purchase it at the price that he or she sees it at and then we would take whatever measures we needed to correct it in the system to ensure it doesn’t happen again,” she said, adding that customers should make the management aware of the errors and staff should be more vigilant.

The correct price on the whole coconut cake is $21.99.

Why go to the newspaper or put it in facebook? Doesn’t anyone make mistakes. Why not point this out to the store Manager or cashier?
No wonder the world is as it is….upside down.
