Narrow win for Ellerslie

Ellerslie managed to hold off Lester Vaughan and register a one-point victory at 58-57 during their match-up in the 2014 Massy United Insurance-sponsored Secondary Schools Basketball Competition this afternoon at Black Rock.

Ellerslie, last year’s runners-up, had home court advantage and lots of vociferous support behind them but the boys from Cane Garden, St Thomas put in a stirring performance despite losing.

It was basically an exchange of baskets throughout as the two teams kept within striking distance of each other throughout. Both teams also played tough defence.

Center Jehu Lafeuille scored a game high 31 points for Ellerslie, while Raphael Brathwaite playing at guard, chipped in with 19. As usual Zachary Cave always shows up for Lester Vaughan and today was no different as he ended the game with 26 points. The multi-talented Brandon Hope, known for his athletics ability, scored 22.

Raphael Brathwaite (with ball) scored 19 vital points for Ellerslie.
