Three Muslims reportedly attacked

The local Muslim community is being called upon to increase its vigilance after three of its members were reportedly attacked in two separate incidents last night.

Secretary of the Barbados Muslim Association Sulieman Bulbulia told Barbados TODAY that around 7 p.m. one man in Barbarees Gardens was dragged from the driveway of his home and beaten by two men, who demanded money.

Five hours later, the Imam [leader] of the mosque and his wife were attacked in Welches, St Michael by two men who were armed with cutlasses.

The victims in both incidents were treated at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and released.

While stating that he did not believe the community was under attack, Bulbulia is however advising his members to pay closer attention to their security.

“Both incidents happened in a matter of hours and we are obviously concerned about it but we don’t think that it is necessarily targeted at our community. We are obviously advising our community to make more effort at personal security and be on the look out at the surroundings around them.”

The secretary described the timing of the incidents as “unfortunate”, noting that the community was currently observing Ramadan.

“This time is our month of fasting so we fast during the day and in the evenings there are a lot more prayers in the mosque so the mosques are generally fuller than usual and you would find more people going in the day as well. So right now is a time of a lot of activity in terms of prayers and fasting,” Bulbulia explained.

Police are investigating the reported attacks for which there is no known motive at this stage.

We all try to live in peace , but there are those that see someone working and making a living , and because they prefer to sit and cry down the wealth and society , they think the gangster life is admirable . They just want to take instead of earn 🙁

From what is posted here in the article……..This wasnt a hate crime..it was a robbery where the victims were targeted because the assailants were believed to have money. A large portion of vendors..here that drive around with merchandise for sale in vans may be Muslim , leading the suspects to assume they all carry cash. so if BT is going down this road make sure ALL crime victims are identified by religion.

Last week 4 Christians and 2 atheists were attacked -_- (I jest) but seriously…That simple headline would make someone feel that someone was purposely attacking persons of that faith…

People of all religions are being attacked on a daily basis, this head line is inciting the wrong emotions… It makes the news when three Muslims or three tourists are attacked but nothing when 10 ordinary citizens are robbed in one day …

Yes they are , so why single out when they are victimized? The regular black man are attacked daily too this is not a religious attack why should the media make it one?

Point worthily to note but again unnecessary to single out “Muslim” whether it’s the religion or people, as you said ppl of all other denominations are never single out so my question is why? Three men were attacked at different times and places… Now they talking abt securing their group more, non sense… To use your words “ijs not here to argue”

It’s funny how majority of people are not even thinking of the pain these people are going through or went through, but most of the worry is about the HEADLINE!!! Lol smh.

I don’t understand how the headline is making it sound like a specific religion is being attacked!! The religion is ISLAM NOT “Muslim”.

Someone just posted “it makes the news when three “Muslims” or three tourist are being attacked but nothing when 10 “ORDINARY” citizens get robbed in one day”
    Ain’t that something? Lol
Are Muslim not ordinary, I feel pretty ordinary to me!!!

It’s not Barbados today that making it seem like some “religious war” or what ever some of you are calling it, it’s some of your comments that will make it into such!!

Do not underestimate thes people they stay to themselves fo a readon many of them are refugees of war and sectsrian violence. If you want to stir the hornets nest go ahead but they will find the suspects and deal with them by their laws. The crooks are better off turning themselves in. Before they turn up without their heads. If you think I joke wait and see.
