Traffic and bus changes to begin June 28

There will be a number of road closures, traffic redirections and bus service changes to facilitate The Crop Over City Fest And Ceremonial Delivery Of The Last Canes scheduled to take place on Saturday in Bridgetown. The temporary traffic arrangements will be in effect from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and be supervised by the Royal Barbados Police Force.

The Ceremonial Delivery Parade will commence at the General Post Office, Cheapside Road, and will proceed along Chapel Street, Broad Street and finish at Heroes Square.

Between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., the route will be closed to all vehicular traffic, except those vehicles driven by persons participating in the respective events. As the parade progresses, the route will be reopen to limited traffic. The  public is required to comply with the lawful directions of police officers on duty in uniform, who will be deployed at strategic points.

The closures affect Broad Street from its junction with Cowell Street to that with High Street and Trafalgar Street; Wharf Road from its junction with Bridge Street to that with Hincks Street and Prince Alfred Street; Parry Street from its junction with Wharf Road to that with McGregor Street; and High Street from its junction with Broad Street to that with Swan Street.

The redirections will entail vehicular traffic travelling along Cheapside Road going towards Jubilee Gardens and will turn left onto Literary Row; vehicular traffic travelling along Milk Market will turn left onto Chapel Street and then onto Hart Street.

No parking will be allowed on High Street, Roebuck Street, Broad Street, Marhill Street, Palmetto Street, Upper Wharf Road, Lower Broad Street, Cowell Street, Cheapside Road or Cumberland Street, except for the purpose of picking up or setting down passengers.

Owing to the traffic arrangements, the Barbados Transport Board will be re-routing services affected by the road closures. There will be a park and ride service from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital & Weymouth B which will end at the Fairchild Street Terminal and there will also be a service from Deacons Playing Field, Spring Garden and that will take passengers to Niles Road, Bridgetown.

A shuttle service from Fairchild Street Terminal will follow the same route as the City Circle to and from the Princess Alice Terminal.

Inbound routes services include Deacons Road, Grazettes, Holders Hill, Jackson and Wanstead via Baxter’s Road, Tudor Street, Milk Market, Chapel Street, Hart Street, left at St Mary’s Row, Lakes Folly, to Fontabelle/Cheapside at traffic lights junction, Redman Drive, Princess Alice Highway and Princess Alice Terminal.

The Eden Lodge service to Princess Alice Terminal will follow the regular route to Bank Hall, right on Passage Road, left onto Baxters Road, Tudor Street, Milk Market, Chapel Street, Hart Street, left at St Mary’s Row, Lakes Folly, to Fontabelle/Cheapside at traffic lights junction, Redman Drive, Princess Alice Highway and Princess Alice Terminal.

The City Circle from the Princess Alice Terminal will go via the Princess Alice Terminal onto Reef Road, Redman Drive, to Fontabelle/Cheapside at traffic Lights junction, Lakes Folly, St Mary’s Row, Mason Hall Street, Baxter’s Road, right to Passage Road, Country Road, left on Roebuck Street, Halls Road, Constitution Road, St Michael’s Row and Fairchild Street Terminal.

The outbound routes services includes Deacons Road, Grazettes, Holders Hill, Jackson and Wanstead services –– Princess Alice Terminal onto Reef Road, Redman Drive, junction at lights, Lakes Folly, St Mary’s Row, Mason Hall Street, Baxter’s Road onto regular route. The Princess Alice service to Eden Lodge will leave the terminal, onto Reef Road, Redman Drive, to Fontabelle/Cheapside at traffic lights junction, Lakes Folly, St Mary’s Row, Mason Hall Street, Baxter’s Road, right to Passage Road, Bank Hall onto regular route.

The City Circle from the Fairchild Street Terminal will leave the terminal, turn onto River Road, John Beckles Drive, Halls Road, Roebuck Street, Country Road, Passage Road, left on Tudor Street, Milk Market, Chapel Street, Hart Street, left at St Mary’s Row, Lakes Folly, to Fontabelle/Cheapside at traffic Lights junction, Redman Drive, Princess Alice Highway and Princess Alice Terminal (PR/AH)
