Duo charged for drug shipment

Two men have been charged in connection with last week’s discovery of 661 pounds of cannabis in a boat some five miles off Alleyne’s Bay, near Mount Standfast, St. James.

Thirty-six-year old fisherman Sabastian Thorpe of Porters Road, Queens Street, St. Peter, and 28-year-old groom Junior Mascoll of Pipers Avenue, Bayville, St. Michael have been charged with possession, possession with intent to supply, trafficking and importation of the drug valued at $1.3 million.

They are due to appear in the District ‘E’ Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.

The seizure was made last Thursday during a joint operation by the Drug Squad, the Police Marine Unit and the Barbados Coast Guard.

The media needs to exercise caution in labeling the plant material on board the boat ‘cannabis’ until it is tested and proven to be such.
