‘Provocative’ Rihanna poster restricted

Rihanna

A poster advertising singer Rihanna’s perfume should be restricted to areas where children are unlikely to see it, the advertising watchdog has ruled.

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) found the image of the singer was “sexually suggestive”.

It shows Rihanna, apparently naked, sitting on the floor with her legs raised against a bottle of Rogue scent.

Parlux Fragrances said the nudity was not improper and the image was not offensive, suggestive or demeaning.

The ASA accepted Rihanna was mainly covered and had a facial expression “of defiance rather than vulnerability”.

But it also said: “While we did not consider the image to be overtly sexual, we considered that Rihanna’s pose, with her legs raised in the air, was provocative.

“Because of this, and the fact that Rihanna appeared to be naked except for high heels, we concluded that the ad was sexually suggestive and should have been given a placement restriction to reduce the possibility of it being seen by children.” (BBC)

Richer? There is no need to pose naked to sell perfume. If the scent is worthy the product will sell.

Rhi Rhi is nothing to worry about right now, the economy was just downgraded three notches. We may need to start borrowing some money from her to get back on track. 🙂

I try to avoid getting caught up in these frivolous arguments over Rihanna, but sometimes the things I read really draw me out. Whenever someone expresses a critical opinion about the conduct of this singer they are dismissed as haters, or someone will point to how many millions she’s making.

I guess those who think critics are simply hateful are basing their judgments on themselves. It takes one to know one. But the money thing really baffles me. How does money become a factor if you are talking about the conduct of an individual? If I went to court on a charge of disorderely public conduct would I be able to tell the Magistrate to excuse me becasue I have a million dollars in the bank?

There are some things – many things – that transcend money. If her behaviour is bad then it would still be bad if she were a pauper.

Then we have one commentator who thinks all we have to do is close our eyes. So, the solution, if this artiste were to strip naked and walk through the streets, would be for everyone to simply close their eyes.
