Barbadian to answer drug charges

A Barbadian man, who’s accused of attempting to smuggle 12 pounds of cannabis into the country, is due to appear in the District “B” Magistrates Court tomorrow.

Samuel Andrew Maynard, 32, of Hinkson Gap, New Orleans, St. Michael was arrested and charged with possession, possession with intent to supply, trafficking and importation following a joint operation conducted yesterday by the Drug Squad and the Customs and Excise Department.

Police say Maynard, who’d arrived from a flight from Canada, was interviewed at the Grantley Adams International Airport by the Drug Squad after he was cleared by Immigration.

He was then referred to Customs where searches reportedly revealed eight packages of the drug concealed in a false compartment of his suitcase, and another four in packages of biscuits.
