Giving thanks for 47 years of nationhood

Barbadians gave thanks Sunday for 47 years of independence during a national commemoration service at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.

The two and a half hour service was officiated by Monsignor Vincent Blackett and the sermon delivered by the Reverend Dr Frank Marshall, Dean of the Cathedral of St Michael and All Angels, to a packed main auditorium, with spill-over attendees viewing the proceedings through a remote video screen.

The Anglican cleric traced the nation’s history from the 1937 riots and said, “the upshot is that this small country has progressively experienced an improved level of existence”.

Well we should take the words of our National Anthem to heart in Strength and Unity.
