Actor found with drugs at airport

NASSAU – American actor and comedian Craig Robinson was convicted of two counts of drug possession yesterday after he pleaded guilty to the charges in a magistrate’s court.

Robinson, who is best known for his roles on The Office and Hot Tub Time Machine, was found with half a gram of marijuana and 18 ecstacy pills.

According to prosecutor Ercel Dorsett, the drugs were found in Robinson’s luggage at Lynden Pindling International Airport.

Dorsett said Robinson was in the US Customs and Border Patrol area when he was stopped by officials. His luggage was searched and the drugs were found, Dorsett told the court.

The prosecutor said the matter was then reported to the police.

When questioned by officers, Robinson acknowledged the drugs, Dorsett said.

Robinson, 41, of Chicago, was scheduled to leave the country yesterday.

When asked by Magistrate Andrew Forbes where he got the drugs from, Robinson said he brought them with him from the United States.

Forbes asked Robinson if he knew what the possible repercussions of his actions are, Robinson said no. Forbes told him that the minimum sentence for both counts is four years in prison. Robinson told the magistrate that he did not know that marijuana was illegal in The Bahamas. Forbes imposed a fine of $1,000 or six months in prison.

Robinson indicated in court that he was prepared to pay the fine. Forbes said once the fine is paid, Robinson will be handed over to immigration officials for deportation. Robinson was not handcuffed when he was escorted in or out of court. He was in town for a comedy show. (Nassau Guardian)
