Bail for drug accused

A 30-year-old man, charged with importing drugs through the Bridgetown Port, was today released on $25,000 bail, when he appeared in court to answer the accusation.

Johnathan Reveira, of †2nd Avenue, Vauxhall, Christ Church, was also required to provide one surety and ordered to be back in court on July 19. The court also directed Reveira to report to the Oistins Police Station every Monday and Wednesday, between 6 a.m. and noon.

He was arrested and charged on February 23 after 10 pounds of cannabis was found by customs personnel in a consignment of personal items the day before.

Reveira is facing four criminal counts — possession of illegal drugs, possession with intent to supply, trafficking and importation.

Police Public Relations Officer, Inspector David Welch, said the accused went to the port last Friday to clear a barrel containing personal items, and when it was inspected by customs personnel they allegedly discovered illegal drugs in three boxes of cereal. (EJ)
