‘B’ can brag

It went down to the wire but in the end the athletes of Set B left Combermere yesterday evening with bragging rights, having copped 768 points and narrowly edging last year’s winners, Set E, by six points.

The outstanding Romarco Thompson of Set B, and eventual victor ludorum, contributed significantly to his house’s triumph. He accumulated a massive 91 points and along the way set a new record for the high jump of 1.85, beating his own 1.80 mark. The Division Two athlete erased a seven-year old record when he ran the 200m in 22.63, bettering the previous 22.7 set in 2006.

Celina Forte, competing among the Division One girls, provided Set E with 81 points on her way to claiming the victrix ludorum title.

Taking third position during the day’s keenly contested event was Set A with 656 points, Set F copped 629 points, Set D tallied 591 and a half†points and Set C was some distance away on 481 and a half points.

Other divisional winners were Rhys Phillips of Set F (61 points) among the Division One boys; Agate Foster (A) of Division Three (58 points);†Ivorii Grosvenor (B) and Brandon Lewis (B) in Division Four.

Among the girls, Division Two’s Crystal Greaves, competing for Set B, nabbed second place overall among the females, with 72 points. Shaquira Barrow, competing in Division Three for Set E, garnered 58 points and Set B’s Ashley Lowe tallied 30 points competing in Division Four. (WG)
