Shane shines

Shane Dowrich

A thriller yesterday at Beckles Road, St. Michael ended with home side YMPC defeating Guardian General Barbados Youth by one run in a low-scoring but exciting encounter in the Barbados Cricket Association’s Sagicor General-sponsored Twenty20 championship.

Batting first, YMPC made a below-par 112 in their allotted overs with Barbados wicketkeeper Shane Dowrich making a controlled 48 off 42 balls that contained 6 threes and 2 fours on the small ground. Ryan Wiggins provided the main support for Dowrich, notching up an unbeaten 26. Chaim Holder was the best bowler for the youngsters with 2 for 8.

In response, the Barbados Youth side never came to terms with the slowish wicket where the ball did not come on to the bat. They lost wickets steadily and the winning partnership never materialised as they fell just short on 111 in the 20th over.

Chad Williams with 2 for 19, William Lashley 2 for 21 and Ryan Wiggins 2 for 27 did the damage for YMPC.
