Family Planning expanding services

The Barbados Family Planning Association is expanding its services.

The main thrust of that expansion is centred on the creation of a clinic, dedicated to dealing with the sexual and reproductive health issues of young people.

Supervisor of the clinic, Keriann Hurley told Barbados TODAY this afternoon, that the new unit would be offering counselling and education services that include self esteem, relationship, sexual reproductive health and family counselling.

Hurley also disclosed that clinical and medical services such as paediatric care, general routine checks, contraceptives services, pap smears, pregnancy tests, sexual transmitted infections screening and testing for HIV would be offered.

She said the clinic would even be offering piercings.

In order to make the public more aware of the new clinic and BFPA services, the organisation would be embarking on a major sensitisation programme starting Saturday at Sheraton Centre Mall from 4 p.m.

Hurley said the public awareness programme would continue every succeeding Saturday for the next four weeks at Lanterns Mall, Hastings, Christ Church; Mall Internationale, Haggatt Hall; as well as Bridgetown and Speightstown.

The supervisor said while a fee was charged for the services at the clinic, no one without money would be turned away. (EJ)
