Minibus driver gets easy break
A minibus driver got off with a mere slap on the wrist when he appeared before Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant today.
Brian McDonald Browne, 34, of Providence, Christ Church was earlier charged with assaulting one of his colleagues, Jason Persaud, on September 7, 2016, occasioning him actual bodily harm.
In outlining the facts of the case, Prosecutor Station Sergeant Janice Ifill said that on the day of the reported altercation, the two minibus drivers, who ply the same route, were in the River Bus Terminal.
She said an argument developed after the accused reportedly got out of his vehicle and went over to the complainant.
The court heard that Browne took up a piece of wood and struck the complainant with it.
The matter was reported to the police and the accused was arrested and charged.
However, after hearing an impassioned plea from defence attorney Alvan Babb today, the magistrate agreed to a pre-sentencing report for Browne, who is also to be interviewed by the Probation Department to determine his eligibility for community service.
He returns to court on February 15, 2017.
