Springer, QC register victories

The Lester Vaughan School were beaten in their own backyard when the 2016 Massy Stores Senior Volleyball Competition continued Wednesday afternoon at Cane Garden, St Thomas.

The girls lost in straight sets 25-14 and 25-9 to the visiting Springer Memorial under-19 girls who had their ace attacker Shonte Seale, a junior national player and a member of FLOW Deacons senior division one women’s volleyball team, at their disposal.

Seale along with Crystal Knight, the two most experienced players, led from the front for the Government Hill girls who were up 16-7 at the second technical time out of the opening set against a young inexperienced Lester Vaughan side who made some basic mistakes that proved costly especially where balls were served out of bounds and into the nets.

They were hoping to turn those bad fortunes around when Lester Vaughan under-19 boys came up against last year’s runners up Queen’s College but it was simply not meant to be as they also went down in the best of three sets, 25-11 and 25-17.
