Religious groups stage Barbados Rally

Hundreds of Barbadians converged on the Bay Street Esplanade opposite Government Headquarters this evening for the Barbados Rally to campaign for the maintenance of the traditional family and in celebration of this country’s 50th Anniversary of Independence.

The rally being held under the theme, Family, Freedom and Faith brings together churches from across the island to hear a variety of local speakers and the United States as well as performances by top local gospel artistes.

The throng of worshippers started the evening singing songs of praise led by a worship team.

In his opening remarks Dr Marlon Husbands declared marriage ought to be between a man and woman and stressed there were two genders – male and female.

He received thunderous applause for this declaration.

Among the dignitaries attending the evenare Minister of Social Care Steve Blackette and Senator David Durant. (EJ)

Does Bajan really think “God” needs their help? The omnipotent, omnipresent force don’t need or puny help. What now is has alway been. I argue if God give them breath and maintain it, who are you or I to dictate how they live? Spend quiet time in meditation and you will be surprise the love that will suffuse your heart, even for the LBJ community.

marriage under the church yes is between a man and a woman however religious people cannot dictate what the state will and can call marriage!!! another thing all the religions are not represented so what makes this opinion unanimous among the religious groups? another thing traditional families in barbados and across the caribbean consist of a man a woman their children, and a couple outside women and their children. so how how can your definition be considered traditional to this culture. i see all of you in attendance as bigots, afraid that the world is changing and you all have done a poor job of leading by example and demonstrating righteous life, to make it enticing enough to the younger generation. you have failed in your purpose and now you must insult and try to humiliate others all the while pushing your bigotry and hate on others. i love God and I am a christian however this thing that you all continue to demonstrate is quite the opposite. focus inward first before you try to fight a battle that you re unworthy to fight. God is love and peace. keep your hatred to yourselves

Marriage was created by God not by the state .A man shall leave his father and mother and become oneflesh (man to woman) true Christians know that.

Mazie Taylor so why do atheists get married? It’s more than a religious ceremony; it’s also a legal event.

They ( the church) should have never allowed such an association to be formed in the first place .

Marriage is of GOD and it was designed only between a man and a woman until death of either or both of them ends it.
All other arrangements are agreement between those parties whoever they maybe.
GOD is love to those who obey HIS instructions and practice them.
But GOD is hate to those who disobey HIM and do the opposite of that which will please HIM.
Thereof those that displeased HIM will be destroyed, whether in a religious or not, he who have an ear, let him hear.

I so wished that they would have added into their agenda, the gun violence that is destroying families and the country, calling for the government to immediately formulate a viable plan to stop it and execute their plan. I think it the most important issue facing the island right now. Just my opinion

These pastors who are shouting from the mountain top are the same ones caught in relationships with 3 and four women in the same church. Since when did we have big sin and small sin.

I believe marriage should be between a man and a woman. I know the biblical story talks about a man and a woman. I also know that marriage is a legal arrangement recognised by the State that has nothing to do with God or the Church. That is why atheists get married. The Church needs to understand that its principles and practices are its own and cannot be imposed on the rest of society. Even Jesus wasn’t able to do that.

Really? This is what matters to these people? Consenting adults minding their own business in their own bedrooms is such a major problem?

Is that really more important than children being mentally, physically and sexually abused, neglected or pimped out for material gain? We haven’t heard their views on that very much. Why is that?

What about the babymothers with multiple babyfathers? What kind of ‘marriage’ is that? Not sure where in the Bible it says that is OK.

And do these narrow minded bigoted people have nothing to say about the almost accepted practice of ‘outside women’ and ‘outside children’ in marriages, domestic violence and rape? I wonder if those do not rate all that highly as ‘moral’ issues.

Oh yes, and is their disgust at the thought of buggery confined to that between two males, as if it is not common between male and female?

This obsession with homosexuality is ridiculous in the extreme and all but irrelevant against the background of all of the above, most of which is rampant in society, as opposed to homosexuality, which pales into insignificance by comparison.

If you are going to makes speeches about morality and wave placards, make them relevant to what matters, and not what doesn’t.

Michael Goodman. If you were at the rally, you would have heard about all of the above mentioned, and more. You are the bigot. You have judged without even listening. Your statement is non-factual and is to be wholly discredited.

Also, Sandy Deane. It is a shame that you have taken the narrative and whittled it down to lazy uninformed journalism. You have dropped the ball.

Such a waste of time to debate religious pluralism…

So for those of us who attended the Barbados Rally information was presented from those who were well informed, educated and researched concerning the sexualization of children. This information which is public knowledge has been extensively documented and used to create various educational books and psychological journals since the 1960s and 70s. This information was shared to show how this has affected mankind’s behaviour and choices since then and how it affects us now. The rally touched on relationships, policies accepted by the Barbados government, the effects and how as the church we must always present the truth with grace and always a loving response to those of the LGBT community presented by a past activist of the same LGBT whom spoke candidly on her transformation in Christ. In no way was this rally used to spread hate or propoganda or push one religion over another. It was used to present facts. It was organized for all concerned citizens and churches with a desire to stand for family, faith and freedom.

Brien King has created yet another God. The one who hates those who disobey him. (Not punish those who disobey him)
I always thought that God is love. Loves the sinner but hates the sin.
It appears as though for some reason the religious community is using the institution of marriage to oppose same sex unions by calling them marriages and everybody is following.
In the USA this started because persons in same sex unions wanted to be recognized in law. The church then opposed by saying that men marrying is against their teachings.
    Persons of opposite sex marry
Persons of the same sex live in a same sex union.
There is no such thing as a same sex marriage.
If persons want to live in same sex unions that has nothing to do with the church or state.
The Church must understand that their laws and beliefs are for their members and others of their faith and should not be force on others.
The state should not be controlled by the church.
The act of buggery must involve a man
For females in sex unions you have nothing to fear

No, Barbados needs competent leaders to run this damn country. You religious fanatics think that people should confine to your dogma in order for this society to succeed. Please give me a break of that kit-kat bar!

  14. clint November 7, 2016 at 3:39 pm

Tell me something, didn’t Isaac and Jacob married their cousins? And didn’t Abraham married his half-sister? If the answer is yes shouldn’t this be the standard used for marriages since it is biblical? Do I need to say more?

  15. jrsmith November 7, 2016 at 4:42 pm

@, Demetrius G , hail , hail on the button, must add the manufacturing of hundreds of religions and the many versions of the bible is just making our black people ever so confuse..
What have religion has done for our black people nothing other than to control our people..
Bible whackers who have nothing to show for they continuous praying ,going to church and weeping over the bible makes themselves look and feel ever so good , by calling people like myself (Atheists) which I am very proud off..
Here you are in Barbados which belongs to God this gentleman needs talking to , explaining to him Barbados is there for the taking but not by bajans , Trinidadians , white people and other foreigners owns all of it so he better have a word with god ….

The church and religions are not doing very well teaching our young women the morals of conducting their lives, we are a little nation where our young women are (Baby factories) 4, 5, 6 ,7 .8 ,9 kids being father by a lot of dishonest people in the church who call themselves Christians..what does marriage means an agreement on paper as like a contract…..

As for same sex marriages it doesn’t matter what Bajans/Black people think , you like or lump it but take heed most of these people we go tin cup in hand to borrow money from for our survival…
Just think all that time spent preaching and praying and all the profits which is being in barbados is on its way out of the country…..

My apology to this dear lady , who is carrying the banner …

  17. Alex Alleyne November 7, 2016 at 5:46 pm

Just reading all the above one can clearly see that “RELIGION” got the world where it is……..In chaos.
Let us all be “SPIRITUAL not RELIGIOUS”.

  18. Alex Alleyne November 7, 2016 at 6:01 pm

Marriage was design by the wealthy strictly for TAXES. love is a man made word . We are all equal but not created “equally”.

  19. Jennifer November 7, 2016 at 7:21 pm

your statements makes a lot of sense. We should be a spiritual people not religious. The bible is a history and a futuristic book about a particular nation of people, from the beginning to the end. This book was infiltrated and misused by the same people who push gay marriage and saying that the institution of marriage is between two consenting adults, whether it be two men or women. That old serpent or the great red dragon. The USA spearheaded this gay agenda being followed by GREAT BRITAIN.
Our people are fully destroyed from the head to the toe there is no soundness.
The fatherless baby factory, sagging pants, Tattoos, Wigs, Remi, religion, and don’t forget the good old plantation stud mentality are all remnants of slavery. I guess this is what sheep do. Although sheep are placid domesticated animals, the only thing they really do is follow others and not lead.

We cannot change this gay agenda as the horse has left the thicket. Instead all these churches and government will follow. Wait and see.

The reason being – we have no military, financial or economic might.

Looks like some consciences were pricked. According to what I read the rally was about the maintenance of family and also in celebration of our 50th anniversary. Wonder why so many think they have to defend homosexuality. Family values go way past any homosexual debates. There was also a teenage speaker who Im sure would have related to her peers ,a former lesbian now turned christian. This is certainly not the first time there was a stand for traditional family and it certainly wont be the last. Im sure would not need to rise in defence of homosexuality unless I was feeling guilty about my lifestyle. Whatever happened to the right to express opinion without being accused of hate.
