iPad costs Brathwaite three months in jail
Andre Glenroy Brathwaite of Mangrove, St Philip was recently sentenced to three months behind bars at HMP Dodds on a theft charge.
The 34-year-old pleaded guilty back in September to stealing an iPad worth $1 300 on July 19, 2013, from Electric Avenue.
When the matter came up before Magistrate Douglas Frederick recently, the owner of the company told the court his wish was for the case to be over.
“I have accepted it as a loss,” he said, despite Brathwaite saying he was willing to pay compensation.
However, when the magistrate imposed the sentence, Brathwaite, who is on remand on another matter, pleaded for his release, saying: “I am willing to pay him.”
He said he had saving money and had been giving it to his mother, who was present in the court.
However, his mother said while she had received money from Brathwaite, she was not able to pay the balance.
Brathwaite was subsequently taken by officers to HMP Dodds to serve his sentence.
