Woman fined for cell phone theft
A St Michael woman has one month in which to pay the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court $500.
If Michelle Rosita Gill, 36, of Vine Street, Nelson Street does not pay the fine imposed by Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant Wednesday, she will spend six months in jail.
Gill admitted to stealing a cellular phone worth $350 belonging Shadia Marshall on November 2.
According to the facts presented in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court this morning, Marshall went to the Golden Bar on Westbury Road with her boyfriend after leaving a cruise aboard the Jolly Roger.
On reaching the bar, she realized that the phone was missing from her bag.
A search of the area and the car they travelled in proved unsuccessful. Gill then used her boyfriend’s cell phone to help track her phone to a location in Nelson Street.
The matter was reported to police and a probe was launched. The police also tracked the electronic device, which led them to the accused’s home.
