House fire leaves ten seeking shelter

Fire destroyed a two bedroom wooden house at Sinckler Road, Haggatt Hall, St Michael Wednesday night, forcing a family of ten to seek alternative shelter earlier than planned.

The blaze began around 6:40 p.m. However, it was not immediately clear what caused the fire or the estimated cost of the damage.

The house was owned by Stephen Blanchard and occupied by Carl Hinds.

The landlord said Hinds and nine of his 16 children shared the dwelling, which he had occupied for 12 years.

However, Blanchard said his tenant was in the process of moving out as he was to be evicted next month.

“Everything that Hinds left in the house was destroyed because we understand he was moving out. He was going to be evicted on the 14th of November,” the landlord said.
