The best of Bajan film

The annual Barbados Visual and Media Awards came off recently at the Frank Collymore Hall. As usual, it was full of pomp and style and many awards to go around.

The film ‘Once Upon A Time in Inchirougana’ was out front and centre, taking four of the major awards on the night.  The film copped awards for Best Feature Film, Best Sound Design,Best Sound Editing and People’s Choice.

Reyda Gay, a fresh new face to the scene, copped another one of the big awards, Best Script, for her film Beneath the Dock. She also received the award for Best Production Design.

Best Short Film, Best Director and Best Cinematography went to Sean Field  for his film Soucouyant.

Best Film Editing went to Another Time.

Best Actress and Best Actor went to Tiffani Williams and Shannon Arthur respectively for their roles in One More Time and Simone’s Place.

Karissa Hoyte and Marcus Myers took the awards for Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor also for their roles in One More Time and Simone’s Place.

Best Music Video went to Build A Kingdom featuring Simon Pipe while Cool Runnings took the award for Best Commercial.

Not a usual but quite creative award was for Best Drone Film, which went to Rising Forward.

The other awards for the night went to the Government Information Service for Contribution to the Industry; Grow Well, Eat Well, Live Well for Best Public Service Announcement; Seth ‘Xcel’ Bovell’s The Scab Whisperer won for Best Television/Web Show or Series (fiction) and SEB Evening News won Best Television/Web Show or Series in the non-fiction category.
