Road Hockey 5s hit halfway mark

After three weeks of competition the Wonder Barbados Road Hockey Tournament is shaping up for an exciting finish.

With all the teams in pool A sitting on two games, Simplex Trading Vikings are top of the table on six points, ROGCOL Enterprises Royals with a win and a draw follow them with four points.

CM Catering Zionites managing one win from their two games are in third on three points and brining up the rear of this group are Legends on one and Eagles yet to capture any points.

Dario Jordan of Legends under the watchful eye of national captain, Camille Pounder for CM Catering Zionites. The Zionites went on to win the game 5-2. Other scores on the night were, Saltfish 4 - 0 HE’s Contractor Services Saints, Eagles 3 - 5 ROGCOL Royals, Strike Force 2 - 2 Spirit.

With the tournament format stipulating that the top four teams in the group go through to quaterfinals, Legends and Eagles still have a chance to make good on a berth in the next round.

Legends face top of the group Vikings this Sunday. With their inconsistent form it may be too tall an order for them to force points from the encounter.

Alternately Eagles face Zionites and although the Zionites may be mid-table at the moment it may be just as big an ask for the struggling Eagles.

As providence would have it both teams face each other in the final group game at Dover on November 6, which could very well be a final of sorts for them both.

In pool B Strike Force lead the field on seven points from three games, followed by defending champs Saltfish on six but with a game in hand. Spirit, also with a game in hand have only been able to manage two draws for their two points but also have a game in hand. HE’s Contractor Services Saints have managed only one point from their three outings and look in a dead heat with SMC Communications Vigilantes for last place who have yet to put a mark on the board from their two games.

This Sunday Spirit will try to seal their ticket into the next round bottom of the table Vigilantes who will be looking for their first deposit on the points table.

The following Sunday in Dover may well see another wooden spoon rumble when Vigilantes face Saints who are not in action this Sunday.

The next game day is scheduled for Sunday October 30 at the Salisbury hard-court in Newbury, St George, 5:45 p.m. Legends vs Simplex Trading Vikings, 6:30 p.m. CM Catering Zionites vs Eagles, 7:15 p.m. Strike Force vs Saltfish in a top of the table clash in pool B, 8 p.m. Spirit vs SMC Communications Vigilantes, 8:45 p.m. Viking vs ROGCOL Enterprises Royals.
