Antiguans caught with over $1.7M worth of cannabis
ST JOHN’S – Two men who were caught red-handed with almost 854 pounds of compressed cannabis, with an estimated wholesale value of $1,707,750, may soon be facing charges related to possession of the illegal drug.
The Antiguan duo was arrested during a counter-drug operation in the Old Road area early on Tuesday, a release from the Office of National Drug and Money Laundering Control Policy (ONDCP) said.
During the operation, the driver of a white pickup refused to comply with the officers’ instructions to stop, and a chase ensued. As a result, an occupant who was riding in the back of the pickup received minor injuries when he fell from the vehicle.
He is currently receiving medical attention.
According to the ONDCP communique, it is believed that a vessel had arrived from a nearby Caribbean island early on Tuesday morning with the illegal drugs onboard.
Another Antiguan male is currently being sought by ONDCP in connection with the recent drug seizure.
Investigations are still ongoing.
