Fun end to Mental Health Month

Just over 200 people turned out Sunday evening for a walk and run to mark the culmination of the Psychiatric Hospital’s celebration of Mental Health Month.

There was much laughter and cheering as participants travelled along the route, which began at the Black Rock Main Road, St. Michael institution and ended at Brandon’s Beach where a mini concert was held.

Hospital staff turned out in their numbers to support the event and they enjoyed every minute of it.

Acting director of the hospital David Leacock told Barbados TODAY a similar event was held last year but the number of participants had doubled this time around.

He joked that perhaps one day the event could attract the same level of participation as the annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk.

Other activities to mark Mental Health Month included a church service, a tour and walk through of the hospital by officials from the Pan American Health Organization, and a well-attended Sports Day in which patients and their relatives participated.
