Hunte owns up to having drugs

courtA 36-year-old St Michael man was reprimanded and discharged after appearing in court on a drug charge.

Kwame Omar Hunte, of Queen Victoria Road, Bank Hall was accused of having 14.7 grammes of cannabis on October 13.

According to the facts read by prosecutor Sergeant Janice Ifill, lawmen were on mobile patrol along White Park Road, St Michael when they had reason to stop a Toyota Yaris with two male occupants.

The driver, Hunte, was seen fidgeting with his hands and was ordered to put them outside the vehicle. A search was requested and he complied and it was discovered he had been sitting on a transparent bag containing the cannabis. Asked to give an account, he reportedly replied: “It’s my weed. I own up to it.”

When Hunte appeared before Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant in the No 2 District ‘A’ Magistrates’ court today, he apologized for his actions.
