$850 fine for cannabis

Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant today imposed a $850 fine on Alvin Detroy Trotman after he pleaded guilty to a drug charge.

The 38-year-old of 2nd Avenue, Mannings Land, St Michael was charged with possession of 2.3 grammes of cannabis on October 9.

The facts presented by the police prosecutor revealed that lawmen were on mobile patrol along 4th Avenue Peterkins, St Michael when they observed a man who then ran away on seeing them.

He was pursued and caught after he was observed discarding vegetable matter from a transparent bag. When Trotman was searched, police found a zip lock bag with cannabis and seeds in his left pants pocket.

Asked to give an account for the illegal substance, he allegedly said: “Gimme a break, gimme a break, nah; you know me.”

He was arrested and charged.

Trotman was ordered to pay the $850 fine in two weeks or he will spend six weeks in jail.
