Mother and granddaughter injured as vehicle overturns

A St Philip mother and her two-year-old granddaughter escaped serious injury after their motor vehicle overturned at the Welches section of the Ronald Mapp Highway this morning.

Around 10.30 Jacqueline Browne- McConney, 47, of Woodbourne, St Philip lost control of her vehicle. She struck the sidewalk and the vehicle overturned.

Browne-McConney complained of pain to the shoulder and the child, Zeniah Smith of pain to head and her right arm.

Paramedics treated them both at the scene, but they subsequently opted to seek private medical care.

The rule of three: Tyres; brakes; steering; check regularly , especially and immediately if ANY indication of change in handling. Double-cabs like these tend to be “tail-happy”.
Road wet, or even worse, just “sprinkled”? Reduce speed!!!
    These folks very lucky.

A vehicle travelling within the speed limit does not over turn. We need a dedicated traffic police who spend their time on the roads.
In the meantime, anyone injured in a wreckless traffic accident should be charged by the police, ambulance, fire brigade and the hospital – or their insurance companies be fined..

I will have to disagree on overturning jas to be from going over the speed limit. You can be going under the speed limit but be over the speed for the conditions on the road. It takes nothing for these pick ups to slide and people do not engage their r wheel drive to counter this. Now moving off from a stationary position or going around a roundabout wet it will slide amd once it hits a sidewalk at the right angle it will flip.

People use your 4 wheel drive in wet conditions it will save you. Why buy these vehicles and not use that option?

Hal Austin, you cannot be serious with the following statement. “A vehicle traveling within the speed limit does not over turn”.

What is the speed limit at the Welches section of the Ronald Mapp highway?

Speed limits and cameras proper road management, these vehicles in Barbados need and independent road worthiness check, I would never buy any of those crap cars being brought into Barbados…
We all must blame the Barbados government , neglect of proper road infruscture and bad transport management…but what do you expect when we are told 30,000 cars in Barbados is without insurance and lots of other have fake number plates…all of this can be put right with simple technology which is used around the world , which will not be enforced in Barbados because this will effect the freedom of certain people and we cant have that can we….thats why Barbados is so corrupt….

Why is it the first thing Barbadians does do is blame the government? I drive a car with traction control and that roundabout when the rain sprinkle it becomes slippery around there my nice was coming from the hospital the same evening my car picked up a skid and she ended up in a panic press brakes and loss control and damaged her transmission,

It have nothing to do with tires or wreck less driving

If this is wrong then blame my RAC-trained motorway driving instructor.
A motorcar travelling at 20-30 miles an hour on a normal road would not over turn if there is a mechanical breakdown or a simple accident.

Hal, I agree with you, at 20-30 mph the car is un likely to over turn.
We do not know the facts of this particular and unfortunate incident, however, I have observed recently that so many motorists are talking on their cell phones whilst driving, without using a hands free device.
