Guyanese visitor caught with $10 worth of drugs
A 24-year-old Guyanese man was yesterday released into the custody of immigration officials, after pleading guilty to a drug charge.
Shane Carson Dasilva, who was staying at Waterhall Land, St Michael, was charged with possession of $10 worth of cannabis.
According to the facts read by the police prosecutor, lawmen were in the Waterhall Land area on Wednesday to execute a warrant at a residence when they saw the accused sitting on a bench in the garage area of a house.
He was noticed with a waxpaper wrapping in his left hand, which caused police to approach him and request a search, to which he consented.
The Guyanese man admitted to ownership of the illicit drug, which was found in his left hand.
Addressing the court, Dasilva, who is a resident of Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara, revealed that he was in Barbados on holiday.
He went on to explain that he had been using marijuana since it helped him to relax.
Dasilva arrived in Barbados on July 13 this year and was scheduled to return to his homeland sometime in December.
