Queen Aziza celebrates
The island’s 2016 Calypso Monarch, Aziza, was honoured by her Cave Shepherd All Stars calypso tent family last Saturday in celebration of her huge achievement in the Pic-O-De-Crop competition.
In a motorcade fit for a queen, Aziza was greeted by adoring fans along the route from Bridgetown to St Philip. She is the second female to take the coveted calypso crown and the first Barbadian to do so.
Many from near and far have been congratulating Aziza on her win, but the shy, soft-spoken 21-year-old remains humble. She told Bajan Vibes she was honoured and grateful for all the love and support she has been receiving.
“The motorcade was very exciting. I had a wonderful time and also knowing that my closest family and friends were there. I just want to say thanks to Eleanor (Rice-Watkins, the Cave Shepherd All Stars manager) and her team for organizing this,” Aziza said.
“It was a wonderful moment. I never had a motorcade before so it was a lot of fun and everyone showed a lot of love on the road. I’m just feeling great right now,” she added with a chuckle.
