Plenty excitement in hockey festival

At the end of today’s second day of the Barbados Hockey Festival things are very close in the Men’s A and the Mixed B groupings with all teams on three points with the scores available as at publication time.

In the Women’s A grouping after two games each BDF and Maple are close on four and six points respectively, with perennial women’s champions ABC ahead of the group on nine after winning three on the trot.

Mixed A and Women B see Rockets and Du Badd on three points each from one game, and British Army Ladies and Du Badd again on the same.

Defending double champions Du Badd are on their way for contention for the three-peat with a comfortable six points on the board while as at publication time no other team in Men’s B had registered anything.

Finally in the Vets division ABC has nine points from three games with, YYS Guys trailing on four and Maple with the one point on the board.

Tomorrow will be the last day of group games with the Festival taking a rest day on Thursday. Action will resume on Friday with the semi-finals at the Kensington Oval.

In other games played yesterday defending women’s champion A Badd Connection got their title defence off to a good start with a 4-1 victory over Raptors. The British Army ladies won 3-0 over University of the West Indies (UWI) Blackbirds. Maple got the better of Barbados Defence Force (BDF) 5-0 and Du Badd Crew clinched a 2-0 win against Police.

The men were also in action and Du Badd were triumphant 4-0 against BDF. UWI were also impressive with a 6-1 success over Fareham hailing from England.

There were four mixed games starting with defending champion UWI winning 4-2 over BDF. Sentry Insurance Rockets outplayed the Police team out of Trinidad and Tobago 8-0. A Badd Connection followed that up with a 5-2 win against Riverside and Du Badd were also victorious 6-0 against Raptors.

Meanwhile in the veterans competition A Badd Connection veterans were in fine form when they won 2-0 playing the Dutch Caribbean All Star team.

Games are being played at both Kensington Oval and the Usain Bolt Sports Complex.
