James charged with indecently assaulting teen

A 60-year-old swimming instructor was granted bail yesterday when he appeared before a Bridgetown magistrate charged with indecently assaulting a teenager.

Joseph Roscar Tyrone James of 1st Avenue Birds River, Deacons Road, St Michael was not required to enter a plea, and was granted $5,000 bail by Acting Chief Magistrate Douglas Frederick.

James is accused of indecently assaulting the teen on August 13. He is due to return to court on November 24.

Meanwhile, another man accused of assault was unable to accept an offer of bail and was remanded to HMS Dodds.

Samuel Alston Browne of Ashby Land #1 Lodge Road, Christ Church, had no surety on hand and was held until September 6, when he will appear at the Oistins Magistrates Court.

Three charges of unlawful assault were read to Browne, who was not required to plead.

He is accused of committing the offences against Grantley Rollins on August 18 and against the same complainant and a second person, Denise Belgrave, the following day.

How can a swimming instructor, a person in responsibility, charged with assaulting a teenager, be bailed and a 16 yr old with a $3 cannabis reefer be remanded to prison?
    How are our magistrates assessed?

What’s wrong “wid a decent assault”? Always an indecent assault.
If i was ever going to commit any kind of an assault ,it would so decent no one would ever hear about it.As a matter of fact the victim would instead of calling the Police ,would be trying to find out how they could could possibly pay me without being charge wid bribing. I would be so decent any Judge would be jealous .
