$1,000 fine for cannabis seeds

courtKyle Teejay Mottley was Thursday slapped with a $1,000 fine after he pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis.

Prosecutor Sergeant Janice Ifill told the court that Mottley, 23, of Lower Burneys, Mapp Hill, St Michael was arrested for the offence after a search warrant was executed at his residence.

Ifill said police found a quantity of seeds stashed in a transparent plastic bag in a cupboard.

Asked to account at the time, Mottley allegedly said: “Them is mine I forget there.”

The illegal substance weighed seven grams and had a street value of $35.

Mottley must pay the fine, which was imposed by Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant in the No 2 District “A” Court, in six weeks or spend two months in prison.

He returns to court on September 30, 2016 to show proof that he paid.

Why does someone has to return to court to show proof of payment? Is there an admin service behind the magistrates?
