Two hurt in Free Hill shooting
A shooting Thursday night in Free Hill, Black Rock, St Michael has left residents both fearful and angry, with one victim suggesting the situation was getting out of hand.
Police said two people were left nursing injuries – one of them hospitalized – after an unknown assailant opened fire at the shop in a drive-by attack.
It was the third such incident in Free Hill in recent times, Desmond Henry, whose left foot was grazed by a bullet, said.
“It was becoming overbearing,” Henry told Babados TODAY.
“That is little boy things. I is a big man, I don’t deal with nothing so. We were just out here playing cards, I get up to move and when I get there now [at other exit] I feel something burning me. I was just playing little six love,” he said.
Henry complained that not enough was being done to clear the streets of the troublemakers who turn close-knit communities into the wild west.
And he called on law enforcement authorities to invest more of their resources into tackling gun violence.
“The police minding about weed when bare people getting shoot up. Too much guns on these streets. It’s just anything goes when they start firing. Houses full of little children out here and them ain’t care,” Henry said.
“There are three blocks in Black Rock and all three have been shot up. They do a lot of foolishness and put innocent people in problems. When you hear the shots, it’s time to move, not to look around and see who the body is.”
Henry’s friend who gave his name as John was equally upset over last night’s shooting and the increasing gun violence in Free Hill.
“It’s not to say that we leave here and trouble somebody. People does just come and tell themselves birds of a feather flock together,” he said.
