Trini on remand
Visitor denied bail on cocaine charges
A 26-year-old administrative assistant from Trinidad has been remanded after appearing in a Bridgetown court Friday afternoon on four drug charges.
Jornella Banyelle Boland of #21 Buena Vista Gardens, Arima went before Acting Chief Magistrate Douglas Frederick in the District ‘A’ Magistrates Court Friday afternoon.
She was not required to plead to possession, trafficking, intent to supply and importing a quantity of cocaine on August 11.
The woman was reportedly held with the substance at Grantley Adams International Airport.
The matter was transferred to the District ‘B’ Magistrates Court where she will appear on August 17.
Sergeant Martin Rock objected to bail for the woman, who was unrepresented.
He submitted that Boland was a non-national, the offences were serious, the protection of society ought to be considered and there was the fear that the accused might abscond if granted bail.
The Trinidadian was remanded to prison until Wednesday.
