Severed NCC workers to receive compensation ‘shortly’
The 52 weeks compensation ordered by the Employment Rights Tribunal for retrenched National Conservation Commission (NCC) workers will be paid out shortly. Minister responsible for the NCC Dr Denis Lowe told Barbados TODAY Friday afternoon that the statutory body had completed its calculations on how much was to be disbursed.
Lowe declined to disclose the figure ahead of a meeting next week between the state agency and the two bargaining agents – the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) and the Barbados Workers Union (BWU)- to ensure all the parties were on the same page.
He said once there was agreement on the details of the compensation, the money would be paid.
The minister added that a supplementary budget would be taken to Parliament for the funds. He explained that the money could still be paid to the workers pending the approval of the supplementary vote.
