Jones misses out on medal

Akela Jones missed out on a chance to medal in the Women’s Heptathlon after finishing the final event, the 800 middle distance, in 2:41:12.

At the end of the seven events, Jones was in 20th position overall with 6173 points.

Belgium’s Nafissatou Thiam won gold, while Great Britain’s Jessica Ennis-Hill won silver. Canada’s Brianne Theisen-Eaton won bronze.

    Well done. When one looks at the size of the populations and economies ahead of Jones, her placing becomes even more spectacular.
    Barbados has always produced outstanding athletes, both men and women, from Patsy Callender and Valda Cadogan, to Jim Wedderburn, Henderson Bascombe and Blaackman.
