Two on theft charge out on $19,000 bail

COURT TODAY BLOCKTwo men charged with stealing $18,000 were Tuesday granted $19,000 bail when they appeared before Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant in the District ‘A’ Magistrates Court.

As part of the condition for bail Kirk Stanley Smith, 45, and Andre Ramon Sargeant, 25, both of Nelson Street, The City were ordered to report to a police station once a week and to stay away from Blackett and from each other. The unemployed Sargeant was also placed on an 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. curfew.

Smith and Sargeant were charged with stealing $18,000 belonging to Ashton Blackett on August 5.

The prosecutor did not object to bail, but asked the court to impose the  conditions.

Smith, a barber, was represented by attorney-at-law N. Keith Simmons, QC, while Sargeant’s attorney was Angella Mitchell-Gittens.

    They should have been remanded to prison for thee month.
