T20 team named
The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has confirmed Barbadian Carlos Brathwaite as the new captain of the T20 team.
According to a release from the WICB, Brathwaite’s first assignment will be the two match series against India in Florida.
The selection panel has also named a 13-member squad for the matches scheduled for the August 27 and 28.
The squad is completed by Andre Fletcher, Andre Russell, Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo, Evin Lewis, test captain Jason Holder, Johnson Charles, Kieron Pollard, Lendl Simmons, Marlon Samuels, Samuel Badree and Sunil Narine.
The selection panel did not explain the removal of former captain Daren Sammy who led the team to two World Championship titles in 2012 and earlier this year.
Chairman of Selectors Courtney Browne noted however that the squad was selected purely on players’ performances. The test team will start their third game of the four-match series in St Lucia on Tuesday.
The fourth and final test is scheduled for Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad and Tobago, August 18 – 22. India won the first test in Antigua and drew the second in Jamaica. (WICB)
