OLYMPICS – Jamaican gymnast awaits results of qualifiers
Jamaica’s Toni-Ann Williams now awaits her fate in the artistic gymnastics after racking up 50.966 points at the completion of her four rotations at the Olympic Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Sunday.
“I’m very excited. There were some mistakes here and there, but overall I am happy to represent Jamaica and I hope that the kids in Jamaica can see that they can do whatever they want with gymnastics and what they love. Hopefully my performance today can be a trailblazer for the kids and keep the programme going for Jamaica,” Williams said.
Williams, who will have to wait until approximately 8:00 pm Sunday to know the events for which she has advanced, started with her floor exercise, scoring 13.200 points. She was 11th in the event out of 19 competitors.
She then scored an impressive 14.100 on the vault and was eighth after two rotations with 27.300, and trailed by 1.799 points.
Williams picked up 11.533 points on the uneven bars and was 10th before collecting 12.133 on the beam for 50.966 points.
