Labourer admits to stealing $130
A labourer on a construction site admitted stealing money from a man’s car while it was parked on the compound.
Today, Winslow Ricardo Bonnett confessed to Acting Magistrate Alliston Seale that he stole $130 from Stuart Copeland’s car on July 27.
Bonnett, 20, lives at Clevedale Road, Black Rock, St Michael.
The Oistins Magistrate Court heard from Station Sergeant Rudolph Burnett that Copeland parked his vehicle on the compound of Phase 2 Sandals Extension Project at Maxwell Coast Road, Christ Church where Bonnett works as a labourer for JADA Builders Incorporated.
On the mentioned date, Copeland locked his car with a remote key and left it in an office. Bonnett sneaked into the office, took the key, unlocked the vehicle and stole the cash.
The theft was reported to police and when investigations led to the first-time offender, he told lawmen he was short-paid and did not have enough to make it through. He therefore spent the stolen money on food.
Bonnett was ordered to pay his victim $130 in compensation and an additional $250 forthwith, or spend a month in prison.
The money was paid.
