Wanted man shot and killed

The search by police for wanted man Romario Lashley has ended in his shooting death.

Lashley, who allegedly shot 35-year-old police officer Shane Newton of Foul Bay, St Philip on July 9, has been on the run ever since then from the authorities.

However, Barbados TODAY understands that after police executed a search warrant at 4th Avenue, Harts Gap, Christ Church this afternoon, a confrontation ensued in which Lashley was shot multiple times.

He was taken to the QEH by ambulance where he was pronounced dead just after 5 p.m.

His mother Maxine, who had earlier appealed to the 20-year-old Downes Gap, Arthur Seat St. Thomas resident to hand over himself to the authorities, is said to be devastated by the tragic news.

He shot a police office? And he knows they are looking for him? Should have turned himself in. Condolences to his mother.

  5. Hanz July 26, 2016 at 6:54 pm

Let a man draw a gun in you and ask yourself if you need to shoot him

  6. Bupps July 26, 2016 at 6:56 pm

This outcome was predictable. He should have turned himself in accompanied by an attorney.

He is a former Combermerian so it had to be included in his profile. When was the last time a criminal’s former school made the news as part of his/her profile?

  9. Alex Alleyne July 26, 2016 at 7:05 pm

Gun violence in BIM is in the news like sports and weather.
The outcome was on the cards , wanted man on the run armed and dangerous .

  15. Gregory O FORDE July 26, 2016 at 8:37 pm

Where was he hiding? Where were his supposed friends? I think he wanted to die. At 21 years and attended a prestigious High School Combermere, a school i wanted to attend but my parent could not afford because my older was already a student there. What a price to pay. Thank God my generation was never in so much violence. Hope one day Barbados will be gun free. We have to restore Law and Order and it starts with Government finding jobs its citizens, and programs for after school. Also parents have to control their kids.

  16. Tashaggirl July 26, 2016 at 8:51 pm

Wow this was inevitable he shot a police officer so of course this would not have gone any other way unless he had walked into the police station with an attorney….smh gun violence

  17. keisha greenidge July 26, 2016 at 8:54 pm

Was like looking for that to happen. The Police were not going to let it go down so easy.

  18. D.BOSS July 26, 2016 at 8:57 pm

Not a bad question to ask by Ms.Coward, but I’m wondering if you ever looked down the barrell of a gun it’s not nice he allegedly shot n wounded an officer , and he allegedly shot at them again which gives anyone the intenetion he’s looking to kill, so go figure Ms.Coward

  19. kathy-ann Clarke July 26, 2016 at 9:06 pm

Ceejaye, I was wondering why the former school was mentioned…

  20. Alphonso Straker July 26, 2016 at 9:09 pm

your tragic story, gives uh journalist glory.

  21. Tony Millington July 26, 2016 at 9:16 pm

When you have the nerve to shoot a Police Officer u deserve whatever you get, regardless of what you think about the Police, without them all that is left is mass chaos so give the good Officers credit for the job they do

  22. Kim July 26, 2016 at 9:33 pm

Former student of because maybe that was the last outstanding thing that could be mentioned if him.

The report Saida confirmation ensued which means he probably resisted arrest and more than likely threatened the officers

He already shot an officer odds are he would have done it. May his soul rest in Peace.

Judge not less ye be judged.

You people really does make me laugh, that young boy had the guts to shot a police officer, what next if he had the chance, and stubborn to give up himself, determine to be bad,you all remember about a year or so ago,a fellow had shot a icecream van person true that same harst gap please, wicked little fellow rest in peace, some of we mother’s wait too late to put our feet down.

  26. Chandler July 27, 2016 at 1:24 am

A thorough investigation needs to be done because if the lawyer notified the police that he was bringing in this youngman then why was he shot it makes not sense.

  27. jrsmith July 27, 2016 at 5:39 am

This educated young bajan man knew he was wanted by the police for allegedly shooting a police officer.. why didn’t he ASAP hand himself in with or without an Attorney. His mother sensibly ask him through the media to hand himself in .
I have no sympathy for him and nobody like him who choose to be two penny criminals , bullets from guns kills anyone lots of innocent people are killed ,going about they lawful daily routines.. Don’t forget the police officer who was shot was ever so lucky he has a family too..
