Jordan jailed for stealing two deodorants

COURT TODAY BLOCKRichard DaCosta Jordan began a three-month jail term Thursday afternoon, after failing to pay an $800 forthwith fine.

The fine was imposed by Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant after Jordan admitted stealing two deodorants, valued $26. 30 from F.W. Woolworth & Company Limited on Wednesday.

Jordan, who has multiple convictions, resides at Bamboo Road, St Lawrence Gap, Christ Church.

Sergeant Neville Reid told the District ‘A’ Magistrates Court No 2 that a cashier saw Jordan leave the store with a comb in one hand. Security was informed and the security officer pursued and caught up with him at Bolton Lane, The City.

When he was asked to produce a receipt, he had none. The security officer took Jordan back to the store but when he reached the back door, he began struggling with the officer. He also took the deodorants from his pocket and threw them to the ground.

Police later arrested and charged the 53-year-old unemployed man.

Dodds should not be used as a “recreation center”.
There is such a thing as community service on the books.

I don’t know how the court systems work, I am at a total loss,American on a cruise ship, cruise into cave Shepherd, stole 12 I believe Ralph Lauren shirts, was fined 500,the cost of probably 2 of the shirts, and a man is sent to jail for stealing much less, because he couldn’t paid forthwith..lord please come for your world..

It works one way for poor, one for rich, one way for Blacks, one for Whites, one way for Bajans, one for Americans and Europeans. And If you are a poor, Black, Bajan it doesn’t work at all. Now you know.

There need to be two post outside the Supreme Court where he could have be tied by both hands and given 10 lashes with the cat-o-nine tail. Yes those lashes would not stop him from stealing again but neither will sending him to Dodds to eat sleep and live large but at least he would know what waiting for him next time and think twice.

Hey let’s face the facts of life in Barbados. Surely before you reached adult age you must’ve experienced that they are two laws in the island. One for those who have and the other for those who have not. Everybody going on about 50 years of Independence, but are we really independent as a nation. Day after day if it’s not the colour of your skin it’s the standard of life you live that’s being count against you. In a country of mixed races and it’s only the poor Black man or woman that’s always being prosecuted. As the saying goes ” Every dog does have his day”.

. In this class-based Barbados society, the disenfranchised and marginalized resort to the commission of crime to sustain not just themselves, but the community in which they live.
So the people who we see in the newspapers on a daily basis that are deemed by all and sundry to be violent, within the community they are seen as heroes, because they are providing social service and that is a reality we need to face. If your government is always in debt, always oblige to let your economic policy be dictated by the IMF and the World Bank, which means the US State department. If you’re kept on a short debt leash democracy becomes meaningless.

This is ridiculous! The man is UNEMPLOYED! Where is he going to get $800 dollars from? You cannot get blood from a stone. Can’t wunna find something constructive to do? Take back the items, take his photo put it in the store and ban him from the store or shopping centres for 12 months. Give him a fork & hoe to work the land. The courts are taking a the Arthur Bliss on the poor, poorer and poorest. Do something constructive and keep the murderers like GITTENS behind bars!

$800 for 2 deodorants and a white man caught stealing 12 pants from CaveShepherd was fined $500. That could only cover the cost of maybe 3 of those pants. Smh. Something is wrong with the way our system operates.
