Squash juniors set for tourney in Cayman
After a successful performance in the 2015 Caribbean Junior Squash Championships(CASA) at home, the Barbados squad has been in training, working on fitness, technique, drills and match play with junior national coach Rhett Cumberbatch in preparation for the 2016 championships slated for Cayman Islands from July 16 – 23.
This year an under-11 division has been introduced and Barbados will be represented in both the boys and girls’ categories. This is good for the continued development of the game.
Players are expected from Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Jamaica, OECS, Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago, and this will make for an exciting event as the best juniors in the region showcase their talent.
Barbados received five gold medals and one silver last year surpassing their previous best haul of four gold medals in 2014 in Bermuda. The girls team won their championship title, the boys placed second in their category and Team Barbados placed second overall. This year the coach is confident that the squad will perform well and he is looking forward to setting the bar even higher than the previous year.
