Tiler throws spliff through neighbour’s window

Henderson Leroy Farrell was hanging out at Gills Gap, Eagle Hall, St Michael on Monday when he was approached by police and threw a marijuana cigarette which he had through a neighbour’s window.

Today, he went before the District ‘A’ Magistrates Court and pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis on June 27. Farrell lives in the same neighbourhood.

Based on the facts outlined by Sergeant Theodore McClean, police were patrolling the area when they saw two men sitting together. They approached the pair and saw Farrell take something from his shirt pocket and threw it into a nearby house.

After getting the homeowner’s permission to enter, police retrieved a small amount of marijuana from the residence.

When they questioned Farrell about it, he told police it was “only a spliff”. Farrell’s last conviction was in 2003.

In explaining his actions to Magistrate Douglas Frederick, the 35-year-old tiler told the court “As I went to roll the joint, them [the police] pull up, so I just try to discard it.”

The magistrate urged Farrell to stop using drugs.

“I gine try,” the convicted man replied. He was then fined $350 forthwith, with the alternative of a month in jail. The money was paid.

“Keep off the drugs,” Magistrate Frederick continued. “It’s not helping you. Try and keep your money.”

“That is true,” replied Farrell.
