Yearwood pleads not guilty to assault

courtA St Michael man’s inability to produce an acceptable surety to the District “A” Magistrates’ Court to secure bail, landed him a one-month stay at HMP Dodds today as a remand prisoner.

Earlier, Selvin Shawn Yearwood, 37, of Jackman Road, Wavell Avenue, Black Rock, had pleaded not guilty to assaulting Crystal Holder on June 5, and occasioning her actual bodily harm.

When the accused appeared before Magistrate Douglas Frederick, he told the No 1 court that the virtual complainant had informed him that she wanted to drop the matter.

However, the magistrate said: “It doesn’t happen like that.”

Asked whether he had a surety, Yearwood named the virtual complainant but she was rejected.

He returns to court on July 25.
