Teen gets stern warning
“Choose your friends wisely,” was the advice given to 16-year-old Leonard Decourcy Harewood, when he appeared before the District “A” Magistrates’ Court this morning.
Harewood, of 5th Avenue New Orleans, St Michael was arrested and charged, along with Jawayne J’abari Alleyne of Lot 26 Kings Street, St Michael on June 5, for possession of cannabis.
Harewood admitted to the court that he agreed to put a black plastic bag in his haversack for Alleyne while they were at the beach.
However, he said it was only when the police requested a search of the bag that he realized that it contained marijuana.
“I didn’t know what was in the black bag . . . it had three spliffs,” a visibly shaking Harewood explained.
His accomplice, Alleyne, would own up to the charge. He admitted that Harewood did not smoke and said he was preapred to fully accept any sentence handed down to him.
“Choose your friends carefully,” Frederick warned, “at least he [Alleyne] said it was him. There are some friends who would not say that. He is saying that he is using this thing to relax him, but he will introduce you to it . . . so you better choose your friends wisely.”
As first time offenders, the two were given 100 hours of community service and ordered to return to court on August 26, 2016.
