Ham thief ordered to clean up his act

COURT TODAY BLOCKA 33-year-old unemployed St Michael man, who pleaded guilty to a charge of theft earlier this year, was yesterday given nine months to clean up his act.

Back on February 24, Linwall Ryan Walkes of 1st Avenue, Greaves Land, Black Rock, St Michael admitted to stealing two hams valued $150 and two drinks worth $11.30 from Savings Plus Supermarket Inc. The offence was committed on February 12, 2016.

At the time, he was granted $1,500 bail with one surety.

When Walkes reappeared in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court today, he was asked by Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant whether he had secured gainful employment. He replied, “got one, one, but not . . .”

Following that response, Walkes was placed on a bond for nine months during which time he must be of good behaviour. If breached, he will have to pay the courts $750 forthwith or spend three months behind bars.
